Analytical dimension sets are applicable if a company's accounting policy includes a chart of accounts with Analytical dimensions checkbox selected. For details, see Specifying types of accounting in accounting policy.

Analytical dimensions are additional details specified for a debit or credit account of an accounting entry. For example, account "Accounts receivable" can have such analytical dimensions as Customer, Contract, or Order. These details are added to the accounting entry when it is posted. Then you can view the details in the accounting reports. This can help you analyze customer balances.

An analytical dimension set is an ordered list of multiple analytical dimensions. An analytical dimension set can include from 1 to 4 analytical dimensions. An analytical dimension set is required if you want to apply analytical dimensions to an account. Create an analytical dimension set even if you want to apply a single analytical dimension.

After you create an analytical dimension set, you can do the following:

  • Specify the analytical dimension set in the settings of an account to define the analytical dimensions applied to the account.
  • Add the analytical dimension set to a default account in an accounting entries template.
  • Define rules for filling in analytical dimensions in accounting entries based on an accounting entries template.

For example, for all inventory-related accounts, you can create a single analytical dimension set with such analytical dimensions as Product and Warehouse. Then, in an accounting entries template, specify rules how to fill in product and warehouse details in accounting entries.

To create an analytical dimension set:

  1. Go to Accounting.
  2. Under Account settings, click Analytical dimension sets.
  3. Above the Analytical dimension sets list, click Create.
  4. In the Analytical dimension set (create) window, specify the set description.
  5. Click Add and select an analytical dimension. If an analytical dimension is missing, create it.
  6. Repeat step 5 to add as many analytical dimensions as you need.
  7. Click Save and close.

The analytical dimension set is added to the Analytical dimension sets list.
